| Holyland USA, located on a hill overlooking Waterbury Connecticut, was a catholic theme park created by Richard Baptist Greco in 1956. The park has been closed now for several decades with the property deeded to a local order of nuns. Many of the thematic objects remain, though worn down by natural reclamation and vandalism. The intention of the plaques and dioramas may have been quite transparent in the past but through time now lay open to reinterpretation. As with my Dogtown series I am intrigued by the human inclination to drape text and symbol onto natural environments. | | |
